Good day, everyone - I have a question for all you goat milkers out there.
My goats are all Golden Guernsey (4 in total), and I'm only milking one of them. I milk her twice a day, getting around 1.3Kg each milking session. However, for various reasons I want to change our current regime to a once-a-day milking session.
Has anyone else done this, and if so, how do you do it without causing the goat too much discomfort or distress?
Also, is there a depreciable difference in the milk yield if you milk only once, instead of twice, a day?
Thanks for your help and it's great to find a forum with other goaty types
Hi yes her milk will decrease if you drop her to once a day milking. I have just done it with my Anglo Nubian milker who was giving about the same amount. I wouldn't worry about dropping her to once a day milking unless she was giving over 1.7kg or above. But rather than you getting 2.6kgs a day, she will drop down to at least 2kgs, and possibly gradually less than that. It is a way to start drying off your goat.
